How the count works
The official interval begins at 12:00 AM on September 13 and ends when Kenn's birthday arrives at 12:00 AM on December 11 in the site timezone, currently America/New_York.
That schedule contains 89 calendar days. The surviving record shows that both 88 and 89 were being used by 2020, but 88 became the ceremonial identity. December 10 is therefore observed as an extension of Day 88, and the display remains on Day 88 until the season ends.
